Smaller Battery Boxes

i just ordered a bunch of battery boxes in a smaller version:

to get the nurse droid illuminsted, i needed some battery boxes.
i ordered some 4,5 volt versions with a built in switch.

LED's

Just got some led's in red and green for the body and the dome..

First eye

my brother helped me printing the first eye for the nurse droid.

here during the printing process:

now he has a crushed sensor on his printer, a six weeks delay (because the new part will come from china). what can i do in between? taking care of the dome and finish the work on it!

Progress on the nurse droid dome

here you can see the lower already primered dome ring glued to the main dome:

the dome got his putty on some spots:

and here already sanded and again primered with two layers of grey primer paint:

as you can see, there still some spin lines on the dome. they will remain there as they are! i like it! looks alike the spin lines on ali domes from a lifesize r2-d2!!

now on to the next parts! gluing on the next parts, masking some areas to give the dome some "colour"!

Primer, Putty and Filler

you guess it...the dome has to be prepared for final painting in blue. before this i had to primer, filler and put some putty on small gaps that occured because of the two piece printed dome parts (due to an error while printing).

here you can see the dome with two layers of thin grey primer:

on top you can see "spin lines" from printing and another thicker line down below in the bottom area, where the two parts were glued together.

now i am waiting for the primer to dry (in my bureau...phiuuu...that primer smell isn´t good!!) to get it fine sanded later today!

Vice Versa

The Dome was printed vice versa. 😇

Here you can see it with the already mounted first two (grinded) and glued in parts from the radar eye:

Quite amusing, to have (again) something, that others haven't!!
Again, because years ago i built R2-T4, and all the other german builders were a little bit upset or confused, why i didn't have built a R2-D2.

now the story continues... i love it!!

Accessory parts

the dome has some more accessory parts; the lower ring element and some greeblies on the dome itself...

Nurse Droid Dome

here is a pic of the printing process. just a screenshot from a video my brother sent me a few days ago:

Dome finished

i guess the dome should be finished by now. the printing process should be around 55 - 60 hours, depending on the printing quality.
there should be new pics in a few hours, when my brother will be back from work (he is priniting the parts for me).

next on the agenda; the body panels. i hope he will do them for me too. otherwise i will have to look for a plastic/acrylic/steel sphere and build a one (or two) piece body with painted on panel lines.

hours and hours of printing, but the dome for the nurse droid still isn´t finished!!

there were some issues with the printer, then there was no more filament on stock, but now it keeps going...
