The next triangle panels for the Nurse droid are on their way to be printed...
These additional White Dots and the Strip are a Kind of Support...i think...
I hope to get the droid parts printed within the next week.
The Red Cross blood donor marathon is in the end of May. Until then the Droid must ne ready...

Back Plate
the back plate was primered as one of the first parts a few days ago.
it is still the heavy version and i will keep it as it is, because i will make a static build out of it.
i painted some dark grey onto the surface after a good cleaning.
some additional paint was added to give some minor highlights on it; in this case chrome paint to the square section above:
then the new antennas were mounted:

3 Antennas
the antennas from the backside of the cone were the next thing on the agenda.
i used welding wire in 1,5 mm thickness. they were cut into three equal long pieces.
the end caps were made out of red 2,5 mm² cable insulation.
then i painted them white.
the surface of the three rods/antennas were sanded, then primered in dull black.
my 3d printer made some brandnew antenna sockets...
holes were made into them with a fine 1,5 mm drill.
here they are; ready to mount to the back plate:

Progress on the D-O Droid
i made some progress on the D-O droid.
the cone was fine sanded with 240 grid, then primered again in a light grey. after that i added the first coat of white to the surface...
...then another coat after drying.
the three "eyes" were masked after that and painted in dull black.
the "nose" was the next thing to do; i masked it with 3 mm 3M scotch masking tape after making the marks in a 45 mm height using a pencil and measuring tape.
masking tape and normal tape were used to have a fine surrounding line and to cover the rest of the cone.
the first coat of green was too dark, so i tried another lighter color.
it is a 1975 porsche lime green metallic. i only used the base paint, but no clear coat.
this is looking way better than before!! after the wheathering it will certainly look perfect.
have a look on my cone in comparison to the cone of the chicago comic con:

Nurse Droid Triangle Parts
The first two 3d printed triangle parts weren't that good as i expected due to false adjusting parameters i gave to the printer.
But i didn't want to throw them away and gave them a "second chance".
I sanded them...
and primered the outer surface..
Now some finer sanding after the drying process and some putty for the small gaps and steps, then again sanding...and primering again..then maybe a fine coat of matt greyish blue...
and after all this i will build to silicone molds to cast them in resin....maybe...

52 hours print...or is a resin piece done quicker??
my son is doing a 52 hours print on our printer!! so this means the printer can´t be used by myself the next days, because that damn thing is printing only at day, not at night.
so i have to wait...
waiting for godot...
should i do some silicone molds for the triangle parts for the nurse droid? might be done quicker. i have the affordable two parts to duplicate them...and all material for the mold plus the resin...

32 or 64 bit ??
Having a way quicker and newer PC than my son, i was able to get the 64 Bit Version and started immediately on it.
So i placed several parts on one surface to eliminate printing time.

Printing issues
There are a lot of parameters, that can ruin a 3d print.
We are testing the last days and talked to friends having the same printer.
Hopefully we have the right informations now to get some quality prints!
We will continue now with the triangle partsfor the Nurse Droid!

New outer feet shells
i just picked up some more outer feet shell parts from the lasercutter.
pic will follow
so i can build another set of outer feet the next days. maybe...
burt first, i have to build a set of battery boxes in steel.

Third foot
I had some sheets for the center feet left, so why not building them after work?

D.O. 6
maybe this is the correct name for this droid. do6 = DOG ...??
anyway, david from the netherlands and michael baddeley had some great ideas and made some cool files to 3d print this droid. and they are updating it almost daily!
now there are pictures made on the celebration 2019 concerning details on the droid.
and one guy knows the answer to the mysterious drive system!
i was on the right way; it´s a one wheeler, but inside of it is a little toy car that has the ability to drive like a tank in a wheel. left chain/wheel, right chain/wheel...so "steering" is possible, as well straight for- or backward!

D.I.O.
whatever this means...
for me it´s a new little droid, the new fellow of bb-8 in the star wars history.
a one wheeler (to be honest, it must be (inside maybe?) a two wheeler, or there is a genial steering construction inside of this tiny droid!)
david from the netherlands already made some very detailed pictures of the droid and transfered them into some 3d printable stl files.
i already made some sliced g.code files to get the parts printed in the next month.
but before that i take care of finishing all the panels for the nurse droid.
hopefully right before the next charity event (red cross blood spending marathon) in my hometown in may.

hope to get this done next week.

Mark IV
i made some improvements on the actual outer feet design. no big thing, only some smaller changes.
the lower foot strips on both the center and the outer foot design have been slightly modified, the outer feet shell has more strenght due to a change in design of the support area for the side sheets.
pics to that later!
stay tuned!!

3D Printer
My son is very interested in all kind of technologies. So he asked me to buy a 3d printer.
I ordered a Creality Ender 3 Pro. When it came, my son was in charge to build it up.
After a few issues with the adjustment of the magnetic bed and getting the right slicer version for his old pc, we tried our first print...

Feet and battery boxes sheets update
the metal shop owner visited me today; unfortunately the parts weren´t yet cut. so i hope to get them in a few days from him.
3D Printer
time doesn´t stand still...
my son is a pretty smart guy, open for every kind of technical toys as rec cars and planes, drones, lego technics and so on. so he persuaded me to buy for him a 3d printer. so the next technological step...
our decision went for a creality ender 3 pro. a budget printer with good test results in his class of 3d printers up to 300 euros. big enough to print some larger parts as well tiny ones.
the following thing is to get more informations about printing and adjusting technics of the system, various filament versions and so on!
we will get the printer within this week. so pics and infos on that later this week!
