Remaining Skirt Part

today i received the remaining skirt part in ali for my r2 unit!

now it´s time to get it welded/screwed to the frame/skirt. maybe i should make some sort of boxes into the skirt for the batteries to get a lower center of gravity. let´s see if this might work...

unfortunately he forgot to lasercut the center hole for the center foot... :(
now it´s up to me to cut it inside.

Honeycomb Lenses

just received from my buddy mark in england; these honeycomb lenses (3d printed) for r2´s head:

Anpassungsarbeiten am Dome Panel

damit das dome panel gut öffnet und schließt, wird es erst mal beigeschliffen.

denn vorher sah das ganze so aus:

nach der manuellen bearbeitung mittels halbrundfeile sieht das schon besser aus (noch nicht ganz perfekt!):

Blaster works

the blaster parts i received from sweden are pretty good!

some little cleaning of the parts by cutting off all bits and rests on the corners, then some drilling, making threads and so on... more of the working steps on it later!!

Star Wars und DRK

Das Deutsche Rote Kreuz lädt zum Blutspendemarathon am morgigen Pfingstmontag ab 10 Uhr im Stadttheater Solingen ein.
Ich werde dort mit einigen anderen Star Wars Leuten zugegen sein und für Fotos zur Verfügung stehen.

Scracker

Because of the minimizing weight effect on my waterjetcut Ali frame, i have some "holes" in the skirt area.
So my metal shop must cut now a 'groundplate' for my Ali skirt to cover this.
I hope to get this done soon.
At the moment i am building a custom bike with my brother.
A mixture of a cafė racer and a scrambler called scracker.

3d Parts

i did some little experimental things today; assembling the 3d printed parts for rey´s blaster.
the parts i got were ok, but i already had some ideas to make them better!

missing parts are a 12 mm steel tubing, a retaining spring, screws and nuts. the surface of the parts is good, not too rough and certainly easy to smoothen.

here is a shot of the steel tubing with some of the parts:

Ali parts for the Ali skirt

today i could pick up the ali parts for the skirt:

now i have to cut them by length and angle...

to get them fixed here:

Ali Skirt welding progress

here are the first pics to the welding works on my ali skirt!

first of all the inner side walls were welded onto the main plate. a little bit tricky, due to almost 10 mm thickness of the main plate and 2 mm thickness of the inner side wall sheets:

 next step on the agenda was to get four sheets rounded. i formed them over a simple steel tubing by hand. then attached them to the ground plate and fixed them to get them welded too.

until now everything went fine!
now the next sheets...

these have to fit....

and the last ones have to fit here...

and in the end the center foot will hide there!

the last parts are ordered and hopefully will come in the beginning of next week.

Aluminum skirt

i never was very happy with the styrene or whatever plastic version of the skirt i got on astromech.net. maybe i will use it later for another low budget version like my r2-t4.

so my plan was to build one in ali!
ok, heavier than the styrene version, but it cannot crack so fast, there is almost no aging process and it´s looking more original!

i had a long talk with my preferred metal shop buddy to tell him my wishes in the construction and to get the parts lasercut or waterjet cut from him.
and he did a great job again!! some parts are missing, they have to be cut in the next days.

but here are the first sheets for my skirt:
