A new order for my brother to print the parts for the next droid for me.
DO3D is his name, aka duckling droid.
These are running around at Disney's Galaxies Edge.
Here a picture of the head, at least some taped together parts of it.
...Well i am thinking of going to do another batch of parts for R2...
Ali shoulder hubs maybe?
Or Ali Ankle Details?
Hmmmm....
I bought this cheap soldering machine to get some more strength into the parts of my Wrecker costume.
With this machine i can heat some inox wire into the pla.
BD-1 is back home.
after he was a little bit lost in belgium, michel took care of him and gave it later to arnd.
and today arnd brought him back to me!
lucky me!
I got a Millennium Falcon from my daughters friend. He didn't need it anymore...
So i took some minutes to complete set...
Which is the real Lego and which is the fake chinese version?
Only colour differences and a tiny logo can separate them.
i think the remaining sheets won´t be enough to build the droid.
so i must go again to my buddy the lasercutter at the metal shop. he surely has some more small sheets for me.
I made myself a lot of thoughts about the ankle support of T3-K10.
How to build, where to weld...
Here is the result:
The freshly ordered Ali tubing fits perfect in size. Here you can see the already cut in length tubing welded into the first leg.
On the inner side of the leg of T3-K10 is another change in comparison to the R2 Leg.
Here you can see the already welded and grinded sheets.
900 times writing something into this blog.
this is a lot. this means almost three years every day a new entry.
sometimes interesting, sometimes not.
i hope to keep you informed enough about the progress on all my projects here!
Today is my free day that i will use for building some Ali parts for my next project, the droid T3-K10.
Here are almost all sheets for the three feet. Two bigger sheets aren't yet cut.
...came fresh out of the printer.
Here a pic of all printed parts:
Time to sand and put filler on the parts...
The feetshells need to be builded.
I first took an old wooden plate as a base to have a good stand for the Gonk Droid.
Pic will follow
I will shorten it a little bit.
The feet will be made from Aluminium Sheets. This is cheap and quickly done!
I wi
My brother took care of the next parts for the Freya Fenris costume.
Shoulder Pads and some Armor parts.
Today i went to a shop buying some flexible tubing...
This will be for the legs. The 90 degrees tubings will be used as greeblies.
I found some time to work on the Gonk Droid.
Sanding, painting, masking, gluing...
Here are some progress pics:
The dull blue needed to be painted on the upper box too, as well the orange on the rear. Therefore i have to mask everything to get a good result.
The colour of the day.
The upper box got some weathering on the grey primer, over this layer i sprayed the dark grey.
I found some 90 degrees tubings in plastic, that can be attached to the body of the Gonk Droid.
And for the legs i got some flexible air ventilation tubings:
The plastic had to be sanded, so that the primer has some grip.
The four corner notches were cut off.
After this the surface got a first layer of light grey primer:
The upper Box needed an opening for the 'face plate'.
After a few cuts and holes it looked like this:
Yesterday i picked up the 3d printed helmet.
After removing some printing remains i glued the two parts together.
On the inside i removed a section to have some more place for the nose.
The visor of the helmet is yellow. I found a transparent vinyl on the Internet for only a few bucks.
It is going on.
Here is what i made today...
Above:
A layer of light grey primer on some spots.
Down:
Masking everything and painting everything dull blue on the front::
Here is the rear side...
And here too a little bit of weathering...
After screwing the legs to the lower box, the whole thing is looking like a Gonk Droid now...
Or only a box on two wooden pillars??? Lol
Let me put the second box on top...
Aaaah, this looks better now!
it looks alike the upper box is bigger than the lower one. but they are both the same!
The wooden pillars were attached to the wooden ground plate to have a secure ground to start with. On the inside i fixed the plate (my neighbour made for) me with the "legs".
Work could go on.
I got wood from my neighbour, the carpenter.
The first box was sanded and primered with a light grey...
The next step was to paint a dark grey over it. Two layers of it and it was done!
After a quick visit this morning at the metal shop, i could pick up some Ali sheets to start with the First parts for the legs.
Here is what i made so far this morning:
The lower end of the Ali leg got a cover.
Then i cut out two half moon Sheets...
After welding them to the lower end...
I made a small stripe...
And welded it over the two half moons, then grinded everything.
for the leg construction, i will use the original R2 versions, but will of course convert them to fit the T3 droid.
...for T3-K10.
All three feet are the same, only the rear center foot hasn't got these red parts in the middle.
Here the first drawing to get an idea how to lock the outer legs to the feet...
I guess i can use the half moon parts from R2.
...at the same time. This is the weird idea that was spooking around in my brain.
The Gonk Droid won't take that long, i guess.
That's why i was looking for a cool Droid and on the other hand a cool costume for my daughter.
And here they are both; appearing in Star Wars Resistance...Freya Fenris and her Droid T3-K10:
I can't find the right boxes. Neither in dimensions, nor in shape and design.
The boxes i am actually using are a little bit too big.
And the plastic is not that sturdy as expected, because it broke very quick.
I will keep my eyes open for another set of boxes...
Meanwhile i am looking for cool greeblies that can be used on the GNK droid.
Wish me luck!!
